As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for quirky and casual titles, I must admit that Crossy Road Castle has stolen a piece of my heart. Having dabbled in the original Crossy Road years ago, I was intrigued to see how this franchise would evolve into a platformer.
The recently released Crossy Road Castle is a fresh take on the popular Crossy Road series, initially inspired by Frogger’s endless playability. This new installment transforms the franchise into a lighthearted, albeit simple, platformer where players traverse countless levels to gather coins and scale towers. While it may not be high art, it offers ample entertainment value, such as dressing up a giraffe with whimsical hats, which can make gameplay enjoyable in its own right. Sometimes, that’s all you need.
Each floor’s purpose is straightforward: reach the door at the opposite end of the level. The methods you use to achieve this goal can differ significantly. Sometimes, it might mean dodging or jumping on certain enemies, while other times, it could involve solving minor puzzles like gathering items or pressing buttons that alter the environment. Regardless, the levels are always quick and exciting, with later towers introducing more complex gameplay compared to the initial tower.
As you progress through the game, various towers become accessible, offering opportunities for you to beat your previous scores. Exciting boss battles are interspersed which demand quick reactions and memory skills to conquer. Remarkably, Crossy Road Castle maintains its freshness even when you’re on floor 80 or having a successful run, ensuring that it doesn’t feel monotonous. However, your gameplay will eventually come to an end when you lose all your lives. If you wish to purchase more lives with the coins you’ve accumulated, there are vending machines available for that purpose.
Beyond the towers, you can spend your coins on prize machines that reveal numerous characters and hats to choose from. Additionally, each zone offers personal achievements to unlock adorable stickers. There’s an abundance of content here, and the gameplay is engaging enough to encourage revisits now and then. While Crossy Road Castle might not keep me captivated for hours at a stretch, I’m always happy to fire it up for a session every few days, with a grin on my face throughout.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that new events will occasionally appear, offering fresh challenges. These events come with various tasks, like racing through twenty rooms or attempting to complete complex puzzles. There’s even a leaderboard for each event, encouraging friendly competition. It’s an exciting twist to keep the gameplay engaging. Plus, the multiplayer mode is a blast! The game supports up to four players simultaneously, making for chaotic, high-energy fun.
