Creature Commandos Teaser Trailer Shows First Footage of DCU Series

As a longtime DC Comics fan, I was absolutely thrilled when the surprise teaser for Creature Commandos was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con. The prospect of a secret team of monsters recruited for dangerous missions has always intrigued me, and the fact that it’s being brought to life by filmmaker James Gunn and the talented voice cast, including Frank Grillo, Indira Varma, David Harbour, Maria Bakalova, Alan Tudyk, Zoë Chao, Sean Gunn, Steve Agee, and Viola Davis, is beyond exciting.

I was thrilled to be among the first to witness the revealing teaser trailer for Creature Commandos at San Diego Comic-Con, before its scheduled debut on Max in December.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, I was thrilled to be part of the “Jim Lee & Friends” panel. As we gathered, the excitement in the room grew when Jim Lee, DC Comics’ President, Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer, made an unexpected announcement. He welcomed none other than filmmaker James Gunn, who is also DC Studios Co-Chair and CEO. With a beaming smile, James took the stage and unveiled an incredible 90-second video for us to enjoy.

“Creature Commandos follows a clandestine squad of imprisoned monsters who are called upon for perilous assignments that are considered too risky for humans. When all other options have been exhausted, they represent your final, most unwanted choice.”

Who is in Creature Commandos?

The animated series “Creature Commandos” is inspired by the DC Comics team that J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick brought to life. In this 7-episode production, Frank Grillo lends his voice to Rick Flag Sr., Indira Varma portrays the Bride of Frankenstein, David Harbour voices Eric Frankenstein, Maria Bakalova is Princess Ilana Rostovic, Alan Tudyk plays Doctor Phosphorus, Zoë Chao brings Nina Mazursky to life, Sean Gunn does double duty as both G.I. Robot and Weasel, and Steve Agee voices John Economos. Viola Davis reprises her role as Amanda Waller in an animated format.

As a long-time fan of Gunn’s unique storytelling and his ability to breathe new life into beloved franchises, I’m thrilled to hear that he’s at the helm of The Max series for DC Universe. Having followed his career since his days on “Angel,” I’ve come to appreciate his knack for combining action, humor, and heart in a way that resonates with audiences.
