As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in various universes, I must say that the upcoming DC Studios’ adult-animated series, Creature Commandos, has piqued my interest significantly. Having grown up reading the original comics by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick, it is a delight to see this unique team of misfits come to life on screen, especially under the creative direction of James Gunn.
At last, Max has unveiled the initial sneak peek of the Creature Commandos, a clip from DC Studios’ inaugural DC Universe adult-animated series. The project is overseen by creator James Gunn and will premiere on Thursday, December 5, 2024, exclusively on Max.
The story follows a covert group of monstrous beings who are imprisoned and tasked with taking on missions that are far too risky for humans. In desperate situations, they represent the least desirable but potentially necessary solution.

In the video, the main group of unlikely heroes sets out on their inaugural adventure together. Frank Grillo, a veteran of Marvel productions, takes charge as he assumes the character of Rick Flag Sr., offering viewers a glimpse into the team’s interactions and dynamics.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Creature Commandos” is my debut TV project within the Chapter One: Gods and Monsters segment of the fresh DC Universe timeline. This exciting series boasts an impressive cast, including Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn as both G.I. Robot and Weasel, and Steve Agee as John Economos. Notably, Viola Davis is reprising her role as Amanda Waller in animated form. Can’t wait to see these talented individuals bring these iconic characters to life!
The show, originally conceptualized and scripted by Gunn, is inspired by the DC Comics group initially developed by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick. Furthermore, Gunn is also taking on an executive producer role, collaborating with Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register in this capacity. Rick Morales has been appointed as a senior producer for the series.
