As a die-hard DC fan who’s seen more animated series than I can count, I must say, I’m thrilled to pieces about Alan Tudyk playing Clayface in Creature Commandos! This isn’t just any role swap; it’s like watching a seasoned actor dance on the stage of my childhood memories.
The soon-to-be-released DC Universe animated show titled “Creature Commandos” has confirmed its casting for Clayface, and this voice actor is known for portraying the character.
Who is playing Clayface in Creature Commandos?
In a recent chat with the cast of an upcoming show, Alan Tudyk (currently Doctor Phosphorus in the production) shared an exciting piece of news: He’ll also be portraying Clayface, the renowned shape-shifting Batman foe known from the DC animated series Harley Quinn. Apparently, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn approached him to take on this role.
In the show, Alan Tudyk portrays the character of Clayface. An interesting point Tudyk made is that in Harley Quinn, Clayface is portrayed as an ‘idiot’, but in this series, he’s a ‘killer, a homicidal maniac.’ Essentially, it’s the same character, but with a different twist. I find it fascinating that DC allows me to play the same character in two completely different ways, and I appreciate James letting me take on the role of Clayface.
In the popular TV show Harley Quinn, fans adore Alan Tudyk’s portrayal of Clayface. His reprisal of this role is bound to bring joy to everyone. Yet, it remains uncertain whether or not Tudyk will take on the character again in any live-action films where Clayface might make an appearance.
In past interviews, James Gunn expressed a preference for actors portraying DC Universe characters in animated projects to take on those roles in other formats as well. Given Alan Tudyk’s performance as Doctor Phosphorus and the current uncertainty surrounding any upcoming DCU Batman project, it remains undecided at this time whether Tudyk will reprise his role.
Apart from Tudyk, the voice actors for Creature Commandos are Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova portraying Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra voicing Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo taking on Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn providing voices for both GI Robot and Weasel, David Harbour lending his voice to Frankenstein, Indira Varma playing The Bride, and Viola Davis voicing Amanda Waller.
The Creature Commandos will make their debut on December 5, 2024, within the DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
