Crazy Rich Asians TV Show in Development at Max From Jon M. Chu

It’s been announced that Max is now working on creating a TV series based on Kevin Kwan’s popular “Crazy Rich Asians” book series. This follows seven years since the release of the film adaptation by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2013, featuring stars like Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Michelle Yeoh.

Who is involved in the Crazy Rich Asians TV show?

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming TV series of “Crazy Rich Asians” will see the comeback of the movie’s director, Jon M. Chu, and screenwriter Adele Lim, who are serving as executive producers alongside Kwan. Notably, Adele is also taking on the role of showrunner. While specifics about its narrative and characters remain secret for now, it remains to be seen if the creative team will invite back some of the film’s talented cast members.

Currently, there’s some uncertainty about how this project impacts Warner Bros.’ planned sequel to “Crazy Rich Asians,” which is based on Kevin Kwan’s second book in the trilogy, “China Rich Girlfriend.” In 2022, it was announced that Chinese-Australian author Amy Wang would replace Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim as the writers for the original film.

Initially released in 2018, the movie was a smash hit at the box office, earning over $230 million globally, making it the highest-grossing romantic comedy of the 2010s. Not only did it perform exceptionally well financially, but it also garnered critical acclaim with a 91% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. To add to its success, it received two Golden Globe nominations, one for Best Actress (Wu) and another for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy.
