During a chat with The Direct at the Slanted SXSW premiere, Wang provided updates on Crazy Rich Asians 2, including its possible release date. Affirming that the series’ second part is indeed in progress, Wang mentioned, “I regret to say this may take longer than expected. From what I understand, it’s happening, but everyone is taking their time. They aim to create a flawless and excellent script, and they want the sequel to surpass the original, so yes.
For enthusiasts of the movie “Crazy Rich Asians”, this news brings a sense of comfort as details about the second installment have been scarce until recently. In previous discussions, the director Jon M. Chu hinted at potential delays for the sequel, saying that “Crazy Rich Asians 2” might not appear soon. He explained that he wants the best outcome and that it should match the quality of the first movie, expressing, “We’ve attempted various scenarios,” followed by, “Unfortunately, we haven’t managed to hit the mark yet.
In 2018, the movie “Crazy Rich Asians,” directed by Chu, was based on Kevin Kwan’s 2013 novel with the same title. Apart from Constance Wu and Henry Golding who played the leading roles, this film boasted an impressive ensemble cast consisting of Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Michelle Yeoh, and many more notable actors.
