As a die-hard horror movie fan who’s seen my fair share of alligator flicks (and let me tell you, that list is longer than the Mississippi River), I am thrilled to hear about Crawl 2! The first one was a rollercoaster ride of suspense and gore that left me with goosebumps and a newfound respect for Florida’s swamp creatures. The idea of a sequel, set in the concrete jungle of New York City, is nothing short of intriguing.
Crawl 2 is officially in the works.
In July 2019, a chilling alligator horror film titled “Crawl” hit the cinemas, directed by Alexandre Aja under Paramount Pictures. This movie raked in approximately $91 million worldwide, despite an estimated budget of around $13.5-15 million.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount is now officially developing a sequel to Crawl.
What do we know about Crawl 2?
Based on recent reports from The Hollywood Reporter, it’s anticipated that the production of the movie will start this autumn in Europe. The film is expected to present a fresh cast and is planned to take place in the cityscape of New York City.
Further plot details remain under wraps at this time.
Aja is once again taking the helm for Crawl 2. The original film’s producers, Craig Flores and Sam Raimi, are coming back on board for the sequel. Additionally, Gregory Levasseur and Zainab Azizi have been appointed as executive producers.
As a longtime fan of science fiction movies with a knack for spotting talented writers, I’m thrilled to learn that the script for the upcoming film is being penned by Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan. Having worked on the scripts for Project Almanac (2015) and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015), these two have demonstrated their ability to create engaging, suspenseful stories that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. With their impressive track record in the horror and sci-fi genres, I’m confident that this new project will be a must-watch for fans like me who appreciate intricate storytelling and innovative concepts. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
What was the original Crawl about?
“In the synopsis for Crawl, it’s stated that when a powerful hurricane strikes her hometown in Florida, Haley (played by Kaya Scodelario), disregards evacuation notices to look for her injured father (Barry Pepper) who is missing. They become trapped in the crawl space of their family home as the water levels rise. As they fight against time to escape the intensifying storm, Haley and her father soon realize that the increasing floodwaters are the least of their concerns.”
Before directing Crawl in 2019, Aja had previously made High Tension (2003), The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Mirrors (2008), Piranha 3D (2010), Horns (2013), and The 19th Life of Louis Drax (2016). His upcoming film, Never Let Go, featuring Halle Berry, is set to hit U.S. theaters on September 27, 2024.
A release date for Crawl 2 has not yet been announced.
