As a dedicated fan who has followed Darshan Thoogudeepa‘s career since his early days in Kannada cinema, I find myself deeply saddened and concerned by recent events. The Renuka Swamy case has cast a dark shadow over the life and career of an actor I once admired dearly.
Despite widespread speculation about Darshan Thoogudeepa potentially receiving relief in the Renuka Swamy case, a court postponed the consideration of his bail application on September 30. Alongside Thoogudeepa, the hearing for his alleged girlfriend and actress Pavithra Gowda, as well as other accused in the murder case, was also delayed.
Lawyer Sunil Kumar, speaking for Darshan Thoogudeepa in the hearing at the 57th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, asked for more time to present his case. He mentioned that the special public prosecutor had raised objections, and unfortunately, a senior lawyer on their team was unavailable due to personal matters.
In response to their appeal, Judge Jaishankar decided to delay Darshan’s hearing until October 4th. Not only did this apply to him, but also to all other defendants in the same case, as they all had their hearings postponed to that date as well. After spending three months in jail, Darshan submitted a new bail application on September 4th. However, the case has been repeatedly delayed since then. It is worth noting that previously, the court had released three defendants in the Renuka Swamy case and even dropped all murder charges against them.
For those unfamiliar, Darshan Thoogudeepa was apprehended on June 11 for a heinous crime: the murder of his admirer, Renuka Swamy. According to media accounts, the deceased had allegedly made offensive remarks towards Pavithra Gowda.
Renuka Swamy had blamed Gowda for being involved in Darshan’s marital issues, which led the actor to retaliate against Renuka Swamy. Alongside the two main suspects, 15 others were apprehended in relation to the murder investigation. According to an article in Hindustan Times, police stated that Renuka Swamy was enticed to a farmhouse under false pretenses of meeting Darshan. It was at this location where the victim was subjected to cruel treatment and eventually killed.
