Could Zack Snyder Return to Direct a DC Universe Movie?

As a seasoned gamer and long-time DC fan, I’ve been through quite the rollercoaster with Zack Snyder’s films. From the gritty realism of Man of Steel to the divisive Justice League saga, his take on DC’s superheroes has always sparked intense debates among fans like myself.

Fans of DC comics are wondering if director Zack Snyder has any intentions to create a comic book film within the James Gunn-managed DC Universe. Lately, he expressed admiration for the Russo Brothers’ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct the Avengers movies.

So, here’s all you need to know about whether Snyder could return to helm a DC flick.

Could Zack Snyder direct a movie in James Gunn’s DCU?

Based on previous statements he’s made, it appears that Zack Snyder doesn’t intend to direct any DC Universe film within the universe led by James Gunn.

Previously, Snyder spoke with The Atlantic about the possibility of returning to the revamped DC Universe to helm a superhero film. Contrary to some speculation, he stated that he won’t be pursuing James Gunn for a superhero movie offer, and he clarified that he has no plans to create a DC Universe film. Instead, his efforts have been directed towards cultivating unique intellectual properties.

“I’m not asking James Gunn to make a movie for me, more like saying, ‘Hey, man, could you create an original intellectual property? Something that strikes a chord, something fresh and exciting.'”

Based on these remarks, it seems unlikely that Snyder will be back at DCU for a while. Initially, Snyder played a key role in establishing the DCEU by directing the movie “Man of Steel” with Henry Cavill as the lead. Over time, he gained a devoted fanbase who appreciate his darker approach to superheroes, imaginative ideas, and visual storytelling. Following his work within the DCEU, Snyder has been engaged in directing the Rebel Moon film series.

2017’s Justice League was the last DCEU film Zack Snyder directed, but during pre-production he chose to step down from his directorial role, allowing Joss Whedon to take over. In an interview with CinemaBlend, Snyder shared that his decision to leave Justice League was due to the tragic suicide of his daughter, and he felt the need to be with his family during this difficult time rather than returning to finish the movie.

The director expressed, “I felt like I had had enough of it,” implying that personal responsibilities towards his family had become more pressing. He added, “I find myself in a position where they require my attention more than this nonsense, and I feel compelled to prioritize them and do everything possible to mend our relationship.”

In the year 2021, a revised version of Justice League, named Zack Snyder’s Justice League, was made available to the public. This alternative edition received generally favorable feedback from both critics and enthusiasts.
