Could Outlander Season 7B work without Hal Grey?

As a seasoned Outlander fan, who’s traversed through time and read the books more times than I care to admit, let me share my thoughts on the matter. Hal Grey, while an interesting character, is not exactly central to the storyline we’ve been following thus far. His absence from Season 7B doesn’t seem too concerning, especially considering the wealth of other intriguing plot twists that are unfolding.

As a passionate Outlander fan and a gamer at heart, I’ve come to realize that some captivating narratives from the books might not make it to the small screen due to time constraints. For instance, the enigmatic character of Hal Grey could potentially be sidelined in the series, leaving me longing for more of his intriguing backstory.

In Season 7B of Outlander, there’s no indication that Hal appears. Instead, we find John and hints that his son Henry might make an appearance. However, since Hal’s absence doesn’t significantly impact the storyline at this point, it shouldn’t pose a problem.

Hal’s important storyline comes in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone

Hal appears in both “An Echo in the Bone” and “Written In My Own Heart’s Blood,” but his role primarily lies within these two narratives. Interestingly, Claire provides medical attention for Hal’s asthma before she becomes entangled in the significant plotline involving Lord John Grey. Despite being an intriguing secondary character, Hal doesn’t significantly contribute to the specific storylines of these books.

He’s generally nearby. He provides Claire with reasons to visit specific locations, and serves as someone for John to engage in conversation occasionally. Skimming through his scenes during Outlander Season 7B won’t significantly impact the narrative, except for a brief recollection of his character. Unlike omitting Dottie, this doesn’t diminish much of Denny’s story arc as presented in the books.

Could Hal Grey be in Outlander Season 8?

In the upcoming season, I have a feeling he might make an appearance. His significance increases as he discovers that his son, Benjamin, was believed to be deceased. However, it’s revealed that Benjamin isn’t actually dead; instead, he has changed allegiances!

Hal has numerous responsibilities on his plate. He discovers that Ben got married and has a child. To serve in the Continental Army as an undercover officer, Hal has resorted to faking his own death. Given the circumstances, Hal feels compelled to make decisions that ensure his family’s safety, regardless of whether the side he opposes emerges victorious.

In my gaming world, as I continue my journey, I find myself following Captain Richardson, who’s leading Lord John Grey – that’s where our tale ends in ‘Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone’. Now, in the upcoming Season 8 of Outlander, they’re introducing Benjamin’s wife, Amaranthus. Looking at the leaked snaps, it seems Captain Richardson might be escorting Lord John Grey once more. Could this mean we’ll catch a glimpse of Hal Grey in our final season? It could very well be, and maybe that’s why there’s been no word yet on his comeback.

Outlander Season 7B premieres on Friday, Nov. 22 on Starz.
