Actor Peter Stormare, known for his role as Lucifer in the original Constantine film, mentioned that Keanu Reeves isn’t satisfied with the scripts being developed for the potential sequel. Moreover, he subtly suggested that there might be less action scenes involved. In 2005, Reeves brought the title character to life in Constantine, a movie that received mixed reactions upon its release but has since gained a cult following.
Peter Stormare teases Keanu Reeves wants Constantine 2 to be less action oriented
During an interview with The Direct, Peter Stormare shared that Keanu Reeves has expressed dissatisfaction with the scripts for Constantine 2. He explained that there have been numerous discussions regarding this issue, stating, “There’s a lot of discussion back and forth because… I believe Keanu [Reeves], whom I know quite well, isn’t content with the scripts, and typically what we get from studios.”
The seasoned actor pointed out that the original film had transformed into a cult favorite, then hinted that the production company desired a more grandiose showdown for the sequel. However, he expressed, “To create a sequel, they’re asking for something spectacular – like cars soaring through the sky and people executing mid-air flips while battling in action sequences.
As stated by Stormare, Keanu Reeves personally envisions the upcoming film with a strong foundation in spirituality. Stormare mentioned that Reeves was concerned the sequel might deviate excessively from the fundamental ideas presented in the original Matrix movie.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can share that Stormare pointed out how genuinely pleased Keanu Reeves was with the character he breathed life into in the initial film. He further hinted that, just like any dedicated gamer, Reeves would continue refining and perfecting his performance for the sequel until he felt completely satisfied with it.
As a devoted fan, I’m sharing that Per Stormare mentioned Keanu Reeves expressed a desire for his character to remain “as earthy as it was in the original.” He further explained, “There’s no need to overload with action and gunfights. You can find those elsewhere. Avoid turning it into a blockbuster like the Marvel universe…” He suggested, “Instead, let it maintain its simplicity and authenticity.
For some time now, the follow-up to the Constantine film has been stuck in a phase of delayed development. According to Inverse, it was announced in February 2025 that Keanu Reeves, along with the original director Francis Lawrence, had submitted a story idea for the sequel to DC Studios. They were given approval to write the script further.
