Confess, Fletch Sequel With Jon Hamm No Longer Happening

As a die-hard fan of the Fletch series, I was beyond excited when I heard about the upcoming sequel, Confess, Fletch, starring the charming Jon Hamm. The film’s premiere had me rolling with laughter and left me eagerly anticipating more misadventures of our favorite roguish journalist. Alas, it seems fate has once again conspired against Fletch and his loyal fans.

According to Director Greg Mottola, it’s been announced that the upcoming sequel to the 2022 film “Confess, Fletch,” starring Jon Hamm, will not be produced by Miramax as originally planned.

Why was the Confess, Fletch sequel canceled?

Through a tweet, Mottola disclosed that it was Jonathan Glickman, who assumed the position of CEO at Miramax in April, who allegedly made the call to abandon the planned Confess, Fletch sequel.

Admit that Fletch was produced by Mottola, who collaborated with Zev Borow on the script, and was inspired by Gregory McDonald’s 1976 book with the same title. The film featured performances from Roy Wood Jr., Annie Mumolo, Ayden Mayeri, Lorenzo Izzo, John Slattery, Kyle MacLachlan, Marcia Gay Harden, Robert Picardo, John Behlmann, Lucy Punch, and others. Upon its release, it was generally well-received by critics. At present, it boasts a 86% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, signifying positive reviews.

In this enjoyable, humorous adventure, Jon Hamm plays the role of the smooth-talking, mischievous, yet perpetually problematic character named Fletch. Caught up in a murder mystery while pursuing a stolen art collection, Fletch finds himself under suspicion. To clear his name, he must unmask the true criminal among a motley crew of suspects, including an eccentric art dealer, a missing playboy, a peculiar neighbor, and even his Italian girlfriend. The crime scene, it seems, is anything but organized.
