As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must confess, I’m finding it hard to hide my disappointment with the lackluster launch of Concord. Having witnessed the evolution of gaming since the days of Pong, I can’t help but feel a tad disheartened when a game, especially one as anticipated as this, struggles out of the gate.
After a rather lackluster beta phase, the new interstellar shooter by Firewalk Studios, called Concord, has been underperforming further since its release, causing concern due to an unusually low number of players joining in.
As I’m gaming away, I can’t help but feel a pang of worry when I see SteamDB reporting just 622 players for Concord. That’s particularly concerning when you consider Tactical Breach Wizards, the single-player, turn-based indie game that dropped on the same day and has already peaked at an impressive 3,414 players. Granted, many fans weren’t holding out much hope after the underwhelming open beta numbers, but even so, seeing such a low player count is surprising, to say the least. It seems like we may have to wait and see if Concord can pick up steam.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation tinged with concern as I reflect on the rollout of Concord, the highly-anticipated game from Firewalk Studios. What makes this launch particularly poignant is the revelation by the studio’s lead character designer, Jon Wesinewski, that Concord had been in development for a staggering eight years. Add to that its premium $40 price tag, and the pressure on this cooperative shoot ’em up to shine becomes palpable.
Absolutely, we’re still in the initial stages, so there’s a possibility that Concord could see an improvement in the coming weeks. It’s important to mention that this data only covers the PC version of the game; its performance on PlayStation is yet to be seen. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if it manages to overcome its early challenges or gets overshadowed by the highly competitive live-service FPS genre.
