Concord says no to having a battle pass, simply playing the game “yields meaningful rewards”

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and appreciation for Firewalk Studios’ decision to exclude a battle pass from Concord at launch. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed the thrill of earning rewards through battle passes in many games, but the grind can often become tiring and discouraging. Instead, I’m excited about the prospect of a rewarding experience where progression comes naturally through playing the game and leveling up my characters.

As an avid fan of Concord, I’m excited to share that Firewalk Studios, the brilliant developers behind this game, have recently made an announcement following the end of its open beta. Instead of launching with a battle pass, they’ve decided to dedicate their efforts towards delivering a rich and satisfying experience right from day one. This means that simply by playing the game, leveling up your accounts and characters, and completing tasks, you’ll reap significant rewards – no need for additional passes or purchases.

According to their latest update on X (previously Twitter), they addressed some frequently asked questions during its underperforming open beta testing phase. Predictably, responses from fans have been generally favorable as battle passes and microtransactions have historically been met with criticism in online games. However, it’s important to mention that the game won’t be free-to-play; instead, you’ll need to pay $39.99 for the base version to play it.

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: In Concord, there won’t be a complete absence of microtransactions. Instead, you’ll find an array of cosmetics that can be bought using in-game currency. Now, these aren’t essential for your advancement, but who wouldn’t want to look stylish during matches? However, we’ll only know what exactly will be up for grabs once the game is out. But based on our beta experience, you might find new character skins, weapon designs, and gun accessories in the shop.

Firewalk Studios not only kept the battle pass out of Concord, but they also provided players with a detailed sneak peek of what’s in store on the game’s launch day. The developers revealed that there will be 12 maps and 6 game modes, 16 playable characters called Freegunners, single-player training sessions, a weekly storyline cinematic, and additional features to come through updates. Post-launch content is promised to be free for everyone. Here’s the full announcement from the development team.

We’re grateful to all who participated in the #ConcordBeta testing phase. As we prepare for your formal journey on the Northstar next month, we’d like to address some frequently asked questions from this stage.
