As a seasoned gamer who has weathered countless storms and witnessed the rise and fall of countless games, I must admit, the news about Concord and Firewalk Studio’s closure left me feeling like a leaf caught in an autumn wind.
Following whispers about a potential comeback of Concord, sparked by Steam’s updates, the remaining supporters of the game received the disappointing announcement that Sony ultimately decided to discontinue it.
Today, we find that rumors from insiders and fans frequently prove to be accurate, so many people had nearly become convinced that Concord would stage a return, albeit perhaps not in its former glory. The numerous updates on the Steam page while it was offline only served to strengthen this belief, leading many to anticipate a revamped version – possibly even one that could be played for free.
But this time, in the end, all the rumors and speculations turned out to be wrong, because Sony decided to shut down the developer studio behind the PlayStation shooter.
The confirmation of the closure was announced on the Firewalk Studio’s website, featuring an email from the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Hermen Hulst. In this message, he stated:
We consistently evaluate our games portfolio and status of our projects to ensure we are meeting near and long-term business priorities. As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen SIE’s Studio Business, we have had to make a difficult decision relating to two of our studios – Neon Koi and Firewalk Studios.
Hulst continued to discuss how the move to “broaden the scope of PlayStation devices and create captivating digital interactions” was an integral part of the plan, and that unfortunately, some elements of Concord didn’t resonate with enough players, leading to the game being temporarily removed from service. After careful consideration over the past few months, they ultimately opted to keep the game deactivated and dismantle Firewalk Studios.
I’d like to know your opinions on the shutdown of Firewalk Studio. Did you happen to be among the select few who played Concord towards its finale? Share your experiences with us in the comment section below!
