Concord is dead on arrival and disappointing open beta numbers prove it

As a long-time fan of hero shooter games and someone who has invested countless hours into the genre, I’m finding it disheartening to see Concord’s open beta underperforming so dramatically. With less than 1,100 players on Steam, it’s clear that the game isn’t making a strong first impression.

As an excited fan who has been looking forward to trying out Concord’s open beta, I must admit I’m disappointed with the turnout so far. With only 1,100 players joining in on Steam, it’s a concerning sign for PlayStation’s newest live-service hero shooter.

Based on SteamCharts data, last night the open beta reached a peak of 2,300 players, and it seems to be trending upward. I’m not expecting record-breaking numbers, though. Additionally, I believe the game’s lackluster marketing campaign might be contributing to this turnout. It could be that gamers are just not that excited about another live-service hero shooter in a saturated market, or maybe PlayStation isn’t putting much effort into promoting it. As a gamer, these are my thoughts on the situation.

Regrettably, we don’t have access to the player count data on PlayStation, preventing us from assessing the game’s success on this platform. The free open beta only heightens our concerns since Concord, with its high price tag, is set to be released soon.

In simpler terms, some gamers have commented that “this PC version of the game can be quite harsh,” while others have mentioned that “matches end too quickly.” As we prepare for our game preview, which will be published prior to the completion of the open beta testing.

Today marks the free launch of Dungeonborne on Steam, which currently boasts an impressive 30,000 players. Amazon’s Throne and Liberty also debuted in open beta with a comparable number of users. Considering the attention given to other games, it seems challenging for Concord to compensate for the potential loss in player base. Personally, I’m not overly upset if another live-service game fades away unnoticed.

Concord, unfortunately, seems to be following the same path as its aircraft counterparts – it may not have a long time left.
