The actor, along with his ex-wife, Kim Bordenave, have opted to enroll their 21-year-old son, James, who was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, into a specialized care center. Diagnosed as a toddler, this condition primarily impacts the nervous system.

Colin Farrell, in an interview with Candis magazine, discussed the tough choice he and his partner made regarding their son James, who has Angelman Syndrome. They opted to place him in a care facility due to worries about his future care needs, should anything happen to them.

As a gamer, I get it – some folks might tell you, “Managing my kid’s upbringing on my own is tough.” And believe me, I totally understand and appreciate their sentiments.

Colin Farrell conveyed his worry about their son potentially being alone if something unfortunate happened to him, such as a heart attack, or if Kim was involved in a car accident. He mentioned that in these unlikely scenarios, their son, James, might end up under state care. Farrell further explained that in such an event, they wouldn’t have any control over where James would reside in the future.

Later on, Farrell discussed the search they were undertaking for a suitable care facility for James, with Bordenave. The actor from “The Banshees of Inisherin” expressed optimism about discovering a place that would appeal to them. He also expressed his wish that this place would enable James to live a fulfilling and joyful life, while fostering a sense of belonging.

Previously, Colin Farrell shared about establishing a foundation related to James’ condition during an exclusive chat with People last year. In this conversation, Farrell conveyed his hope that the world would show James “compassion and dignity.” Furthermore, he clarified that once James reached 21, he would no longer be eligible for special education classes, leaving him responsible for his own care.

As per the Mayo Clinic, Angelman syndrome arises from a genetic mutation. Individuals diagnosed with this genetic condition may face delays in their development, issues with speech and balance, intellectual disabilities, and seizures.
