Filmmaker Babak Anvari, who hails from both Britain and Iran, has recently provided an exciting new update on the upcoming sequel to the Cloverfield series, which has been in the works since 2018. This announcement follows almost twenty years since the Matt Reeves-directed first movie kicked off the science fiction horror franchise with its theatrical debut.
What did Babak Anvari say about the Cloverfield sequel?
As a dedicated gamer, I recently got some exciting news straight from Anvari himself! During our chat, he shared that the long-awaited Cloverfield sequel is still in the works at Paramount Pictures. Now, I can’t spill all the beans just yet, but let me tell you, I’m riding high on anticipation for this monster horror movie!
Arvari remarked, “I’m familiar with every member of that team, and I realize they tend to keep things private. Regardless of what transpires, remember there’s a good chance you’ll receive something truly spectacular.
Since 2022, Anvari has been in charge of the project, with Joe Barton crafting the screenplay. Anvari, who’s experienced in the horror genre, directed both the 2016 Persian-language psychological thriller “Under the Shadow” and the 2019 psychological horror film “Wounds,” starring Dakota Johnson. As for the storyline and characters, more information is being kept secret, but it won’t adopt the found-footage style of the original installment. The direct sequel is being produced by J.J. Abrams, Hannah Minghella, and Jon Cohen.
Back in 2008, I found myself immersed in a gripping movie directed by Reeves, based on a screenplay penned by Drew Goddard. The story unfolded around a band of youthful New York citizens who were thrust into a survival situation when an enormous monster emerged out of nowhere and wreaked havoc alongside smaller creatures. The cast was stacked with talents like Michael Stahl-David, Odette Yustman, Mike Vogel, Jessica Lucas, Lizzy Caplan, Ben Feldman, and others. This cinematic beast currently boasts a Certified Fresh rating of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, backed by 214 reviews. The movie’s success both critically and commercially led to two standalone sequels in 2016 and 2018.
