Clayface Update: Creature Commandos DCU Actor Won’t Play Batman Villain

Alan Tudyk won’t play Clayface in the upcoming DCU movie.

Last year, it became known that Mike Flanagan, famous for The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep, is penning a film about Clayface, which will take place in the DC Universe overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Before Clayface, other DCU projects were unveiled earlier, but the preparation phase for Clayface moved swiftly, leading to a 2026 release date. Production is slated to kick off this coming summer, and it was just announced that Speak No Evil’s James Watkins will be directing the film.

As of now, there’s no official word on who will portray Clayface in the upcoming live-action film; nevertheless, according to Variety, Alan Tudyk is not set to play the main antagonist, the Batman villain Clayface, in the new movie directed by James Gunn.

Why isn’t Alan Tudyk playing Clayface in the DCU live-action movie?

Previously, it was mentioned that actors who lend their voices to significant characters in DC Universe animated projects will also portray these characters in live-action. Tudyk provided Clayface’s voice in the DCU Creature Commandos and a few other characters, including Doctor Phosphorus. However, he also voices this character throughout all five seasons of the Harley Quinn show, which does not fall within the DC Universe.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d put it like this: Alan Tudyk isn’t stepping into the shoes of Clayface in the live-action series; it turns out that role wasn’t the main gig he was after.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can tell you that Safran labeled Clayface as a “body-horror thriller,” while Gunn’s aim is to create a movie that will send shivers down the spine even for those who aren’t DC fans. The production has an anticipated budget of approximately $40 million.

The storyline of the movie revolves around a B-list actor from Hollywood who uses an injection to maintain his relevance, unknowingly gaining the ability to transform his face and body into malleable clay.

Clayface currently has a September 11, 2026, release date from Warner Bros.
