Clayface Update: Batman Villain’s DCU Movie Has a Filming Start Date

Although Sgt. Rock won’t be shooting this summer, the Clayface movie from the DC Universe has been scheduled to begin production instead.

In September 2026, you’ll find a fresh DC Universe movie titled Clayface hitting the screens. This movie is helmed by director James Watkins, while the script is penned by Mike Flanagan, known for his work on The Haunting of Hill House.

When is the production start date for Clayface?

Based on information from TheWrap’s Umberto Gonzalez, the start of production for Clayface is scheduled for October 1, 2025.

It appears that DC enthusiasts may not need to endure a prolonged wait for updates on who’ll portray Clayface in the upcoming film, as the identity of the actor hasn’t been disclosed yet. However, it’s been made clear that Alan Tudyk won’t be donning the Clayface suit, despite having lent his voice to the character in Creature Commandos and the Harley Quinn animated series, which exists independently from the DC Universe.

According to reports, this upcoming film is estimated to cost $40 million and tells a chilling story about a B-movie actor who, in an effort to remain relevant, injects himself with a mysterious substance. However, he soon discovers that he has the power to mold his own physical form like clay, becoming a living sculpture. (This plot description was obtained from The Hollywood Reporter.)

At present, more specifics about the subject are kept confidential. It’s still uncertain if Batman will appear in the movie.

Gunn and Peter Safran will work together with Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris on the creation of Clayface. In his previous works, Watkins has been involved in films such as Eden Lake (2008), The Woman in Black (2012), Bastille Day (2016), and Speak No Evil (scheduled for 2024).

In U.S. theaters starting September 11, 2026, Warner Bros Pictures will bring Clayface to life. Before that, get ready for Superman’s arrival on July 11, 2025, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow on June 26, 2026.
