As a fan who’s seen more than a handful of coming-of-age stories, let me tell you, “Classified” is not your typical teen drama. It’s like “The Orville,” “Andor,” and a dash of James Bond rolled into one, served with a South African twist!
In a departure from conventional growing-up tales, Amazon Prime Video unveiled the teaser for “Classified,” an intriguing espionage drama that follows the transformation of an ordinary teenager into a secret agent.
The series, due to premiere on the streamer on August 22, is a creation of Kagiso Lediga. It features Imani Pullum (from “The Orville”), Christine Horne (“The Fallout”), Sule Rimi (“Andor”), Paballo Koza, Mila Rayne, Neels Clasen, and several other talented actors in the lead roles as Ella Gardner, Dianne, Gabe, Lolo, Gwyn, Wynand, and others respectively.
What is Classified about?
The story revolves around Ella Gardner, forced to depart from her Californian home following an arrest during a protest. As she adapts to spending the remainder of her high school years in a new location, she will encounter a world quite distinct from what she’s known before.
According to its official summary, the series “Classified” revolves around Ella, a 15-year-old student at a public school in Oakland, California. Known for her knack for spinning tales and skillful street skateboarding, Ella is a fiery spirit – rebellious and defiant by nature. After being arrested during a protest and facing potential jail time, Ella manages to avoid imprisonment due to her stepmother’s influential connections. The catch? She must complete the rest of her high school education with her father and Dianne in Johannesburg, South Africa. As Ella grapples with an entirely new environment, she encounters a starkly different reality from what she is accustomed to.
