According to a conversation with IGN, Boyle has shared that Murphy won’t appear in “28 Years Later,” but will feature in its sequel titled “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” set for release on January 16, 2026. However, Boyle was tight-lipped about the extent or role of Murphy in the film, playfully suggesting that he shouldn’t divulge too many details.

Boyle hinted that Murphy would appear in the third, as-yet-unnamed installment of the proposed trilogy, assuming the first two are successful.

Boyle mentioned that at the end of the first film (28 Years Later), there’s a part which isn’t traditionally called a coda; it could be an epilogue or a concluding theme. This section serves as a transition to the next film, ensuring each story has a conclusion while also setting up the following tale. It’s quite ambitious, but they don’t have funding for the third film yet. The success of the first one will determine whether they get approval for both funds and production of the third one. Everyone involved, including Cillian, is eagerly waiting for that opportunity.
