Cillian Murphy Netflix Movie Steve Gets Release Date, First Look

Netflix has officially unveiled the release date for their upcoming drama film, Steve, featuring Academy Award laureate Cillian Murphy and Titans’ Jay Lycurgo in the lead roles. The film adapts the 2023 novella ‘Shy’, penned by Max Porter.

Apart from starring in the role of Steve, Murphy is anticipated to return to his famous character as Thomas Shelby in Netflix’s upcoming Peaky Blinders film titled “The Immortal Man”. This film will be set during World War II. Previously, he portrayed Thomas Shelby for six seasons, from 2013 to 2022. The renowned actor is slated to appear next in Nia DaCosta’s horror movie scheduled for release in 2026, titled “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple”.

When is the Steve release date?

On October 3, 2025, “Steve” is set to premiere. At that point, it will only be available for streaming on Netflix. Before then, there will be a short, selective theater run in September.

In the mid-90s, the movie ‘Steve’ is based on Max Porter’s Sunday Times bestseller, Shy. The story revolves around a significant day in the life of a headteacher named Steve and his students at a school for those with a troubled past, which faces closure due to societal neglect. Alongside his efforts to preserve the school, we delve into Steve’s personal battle with mental health issues. Concurrently, we are introduced to Shy, a disturbed teenager who is torn between his past and future, attempting to find balance between his internal vulnerability and self-destructive tendencies.

Actors such as Tracey Ullman (from Mrs. America and The Tracey Ullman Show), Simbi Ajikawo (Top Boy), and Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves, Small Things Like These) are added to the supporting cast along with Douggie McMeekin, Youssef Kerkour, Luke Ayres, Joshua J Parker, Araloyin Oshunremi, Tut Nyuot, Tom Moya, Ahmed Ismail, Joshua Barry, Archie Fisher, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Priyanga Burford, George Fouracres, Marcus Garvey, Ruby Ashbourne-Serkis, and Roger Allam.

In Steve, Tim Mielants takes on directorial duties from a screenplay penned by Max Porter. Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow contribute the film’s music, while Murphy, Alan Moloney, and Tina Pawlik handle production duties. Max Porter is also credited as an executive producer. The creative team additionally includes Robrecht Heyvaert as cinematographer and Danielle Palmer as editor.
