Christina Applegate has shared her feelings about the passing of her father, Robert Applegate, in a heartfelt installment of her podcast, “MeSsy,” that she hosts alongside Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

In the April 29th episode featuring guest JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Applegate disclosed that her father had recently passed away only a week prior. When Swisher discussed the loss of her parents, this touched off Applegate to divulge her personal experience. She showed clear signs of emotion as she spoke about it.

Applegate expressed that it was the first time she’d truly cried, explaining that perhaps she hadn’t allowed herself to do so until now because she’d been preoccupied with various things. Despite her family knowing her father’s death was imminent, the actual event still came as a heavy blow. She also questioned whether not feeling emotions in anticipation of someone’s passing could ever be seen as an excuse, given that you know they will eventually leave and goodbyes have been said.

Prior to the discussion, Sigler voiced apprehension about its potential emotional impact on Applegate, yet she reassured her fellow host that she was capable of managing it. Nonetheless, she acknowledged feeling “extremely sorrowful.

The actress mentioned that she didn’t live with her father since their parents split up when she was just five months old. Nevertheless, he continued to be present in her life over the years. Moreover, she pointed out that although he wasn’t heavily involved in raising her, she ended up gaining two new siblings and a stepmother through him.
