Chris Evans shares the first thoughts he had upon learning that Robert Downey Jr. would portray Doctor Doom in the movie “Avengers: Doomsday”.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Evans portrayed Steve Rogers/Captain America until his character was officially laid to rest in Avengers: Endgame. However, a new Avengers movie titled Avengers: Endgame is currently being produced, where Downey Jr. will take on the role of Doctor Doom; unfortunately, Evans won’t be reprising his role for this film.
What did Chris Evans say about Avengers: Doomsday?
As I chatted up ScreenRant recently, they posed a question that had me thinking: What do I make of Downey Jr.’s character shift from the charismatic Iron Man to a Marvel Studios antagonist? Here’s my take on it.
“I mean, I can’t wait to see what he does,” he said. “I’m sure it’s going to be incredible.”
He also mentioned, “At first, I was taken aback, thinking ‘What’s this?’ But it’s as if cheese and crust. You think there’s no more to a pizza, right? And then you’re surprised, saying ‘Wow, wait a minute! What else can we do with this? (gestures flipping motion). Incredible!
Additionally, Evans mentioned that it was Downey Jr. who essentially persuaded him to take on the role of Captain America.
Initially, I hesitated and declined the offer multiple times. Yet, he managed to convince me with his insights. To be honest, I wasn’t keen on accepting it. I was apprehensive, feeling a sense of intimidation, unsure about taking on such a significant commitment. At that moment, I even contemplated leaving acting altogether. However, here I am today.
Currently, specifics about the storyline for the movie “Avengers: Doomsday,” directed by the Russo Brothers, are being kept confidential. This Marvel production is set to hit U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026. Subsequently, its sequel, titled “Avengers: Secret Wars,” will premiere on December 17, 2027.
In the meantime, Evans can currently be seen sharing the screen with Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal in the movie “Materialists,” directed by Celine Song, set to premiere in theaters on June 13, 2025.
