As a die-hard Chiefs fan with years of heartache and triumph etched into my football soul, I can’t help but feel a knot forming in my stomach when I hear about Patrick Mahomes’ injury. The guy is our golden boy, the architect of miraculous comebacks, and the hope that keeps Kansas City dreaming.
There’s been worry among NFL fans about whether or not Patrick Mahomes will be able to play for the Kansas City Chiefs in their upcoming game against the Houston Texans due to his recent injury. His current status is unclear at this time.
Here is what happened to Patrick Mahomes.
What happened to Patrick Mahomes?
During the fourth quarter against the Cleveland Browns, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs sustained an ankle injury. Despite the discomfort, there’s no fracture involved, as described by coach Andy Reid. He characterized Mahomes’ ankle as tender and mentioned that rehabilitation has already commenced. The coach added, “It’s sore, so he’ll begin his recovery process now. We’ll monitor his progress over time to see how he fares.” (Source: ESPN)
During a fourth-down pass attempt, Mahomes was tackled from behind by Dalvin Tomlinson and hit high by Mike Hall. The play ended in an incomplete pass. Although Mahomes wished to continue playing, he was taken out of the game because the Chiefs already had a substantial 21-7 lead. Coach Reid mentioned that Mahomes was keen on returning, but under the given circumstances, it wasn’t necessary. In his place, Carson Wentz took over as backup.
In the game, Mahomes described the play by stating, “I was attempting to scramble in the pocket, particularly on fourth down, aiming to create something positive. As I launched the ball, it seemed someone hit me from the front, and then possibly from behind as well. Consequently, I ended up being tackled roughly. Such incidents are common in football. Trying to shake off the pain, I struggled to get back up, but of course, it was painful.” For the remainder of the game, he stayed on the sidelines before leaving for the locker room, noticeably limping.
Will Patrick Mahomes play against Texans?
Following the Sunday game where he sustained a right ankle injury, it’s uncertain if Patrick Mahomes will play for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Houston Texans. After the match, Mahomes stated, “It’s tough to say at the moment. The adrenaline is still high. Typically, it’s the day after that gives a clearer picture. I think I could have continued playing under different conditions, but I believed the wise choice was to bring in Carson Wentz.” With limited time for preparation, Mahomes is concentrating on his recovery.
