Chicago PD boss teases "darkest" character ever done in season 12

As a long-time fan of Chicago PD, I must say that the latest developments in Season 12 have me on the edge of my seat! The shocking shooting of Emily Martel and the introduction of a possible serial killer have added a new level of intensity to the series.

Chicago PD may be offering a new “big bad” for Season 12 that can add to the thrills!

The 12th season of Chicago PD started off with quite a bang. At the start of the series, the Intelligence Unit welcomed a new face – Emily Martel (played by Victoria Cartagena). She seemed to be adjusting smoothly. Alongside Ruzek, she played a significant role in solving a drug trafficking case. While they were driving through a neighborhood, gunfire erupted. They exited their vehicle to investigate, but soon found themselves under attack. In a surprising turn of events, Martel was hit by a bullet and sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

In the heat of Episode 2, I found myself partnered with Patrol Officer Kiana Cook (Toya Turner), hot on the trail of the gunmen. Sadly, Martel didn’t make it, losing his life at the hospital. Later, Cook proved her mettle by helping us track a potential serial killer, an effort that earned her a spot among our team.

A chance of a big bag in Chicago PD season 12?

That was a powerful start to the season as showrunner Gwen Sigan has hinted to TVLine that the series is planning a “big bad” for multiple episodes much like Season 11’s serial killer.

There are a couple, yes. I can tell you that one sort of big bad we sort of introduce a little bit in Episode 6 (airing Nov. 6) and then Episode 7 you get to know more. And then we’ve got another, I would say one of the darkest characters we’ve done is introduced in episode 10, which will also be for a few episodes of the season as well. So, yeah, we’ve got some really twisted big bads coming up.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m picking up on the vibe that the creators of Chicago PD are aiming to weave in more intricate, ongoing story arcs alongside their regular weekly episodes. This could potentially add an extra layer of complexity and depth to the characters’ journeys, making the series even more engaging for us fans.

What else is coming on Chicago PD?

As a devoted fan, I noticed that at the beginning of Season 12, my favorite character, Burgess (Marina Squerciati), was missing from a few episodes due to her being occupied with a project in New Orleans. It seemed like a straightforward scheduling conflict, but luckily for us, she returned to her job on Chicago P.D. soon after.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel a shiver of anticipation when I consider Episode 6. It seems like it might present Burgess with an immense hurdle that could potentially derail her aspirations of becoming a detective.

We see her face a big challenge. It’s a fun ride for her. It’s a lot about sort of ‘inside baseball’ policing. It presents good ethical dilemmas for her throughout the episode, and we get to see her be really resilient and to come out the other end of it a bit changed, which is always fun.

Burgess is deeply committed to becoming a detective, yet she always strives to act ethically. It seems there may come a time when she must decide between advancing her career and ensuring justice prevails, a choice that could significantly impact her future. Furthermore, her plans to marry Ruzek are still in the works.

Indeed, it appears that Chicago PD is shaping up well for another compelling season, continuing to deliver the thrilling storylines that fans have grown fond of.

Chicago PD airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC.
