As a long-time fan of Chicago Fire, I must say that the arrival of Dermot Mulroney as Dom Pascal feels like a breath of fresh air. After 12 seasons with Chief Wallace Boden at Firehouse 51, it’s natural to feel a sense of nostalgia and wonder about how things will change. Yet, the introduction of Pascal has sparked a new wave of excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead in this iconic series.
Stepping into the heat of a new season with Chicago Fire, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation as our beloved Firehouse 51 prepares for some major shifts. After an incredible 12-season run, Eamonn Walker’s Chief Wallace Boden is hanging up his boots, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of fans. But fear not, for Dermot Mulroney is gracing our screens as the fresh face taking charge – none other than the new chief, Dom Pascal!
Here is everything to know about the entry of the new chief at Firehouse 51 in Chicago Fire.
Why did Dermot Mulroney’s Dom Pascal replace Wallace Boden as Chicago Fire’s new chief?
After 12 seasons on Chicago Fire playing Chief Wallace Boden, Eamonn Walker left the show. This opening allowed Dermot Mulroney to take over as the new Battalion Chief, Dom Pascal, in the Season 13 premiere. The arrival of Pascal brought about a considerable shift at Firehouse 51, as the team had become accustomed to Boden’s leadership. (Information from NBC)
Immediately, Pascal understood the significance of the position he’d inherited from Boden. He acknowledged the esteem he held for Boden, saying, “It’s genuinely a privilege to be here, in his old domain.” Yet, he swiftly asserted that he had his unique approach to leadership, ensuring everyone knew he wasn’t there to mimic Boden. As he introduced himself to the team, he preemptively alerted them about forthcoming changes in procedures. However, before he could expound on his plans, a fire call disrupted him, and he guided his team into action.
Why did Eammon Walker’s Wallace Boden leave Chicago Fire?
Eamonn Walker, the actor who’s played Chief Wallace Boden since the beginning of Chicago Fire, shared that he’ll be leaving the series following a run of 12 seasons.
Back in May 2024, news of Walker’s departure was announced, marking his last full-time appearance during the Season 12 finale titled ‘Never Say Goodbye.’ In this episode, Boden opted to accept a fresh opportunity as Deputy Fire Commissioner for the Chicago Fire Department, handing over command of Firehouse 51 to Senior Firefighter Christopher Herrmann. Throughout the season, there had been mounting speculation about his exit, particularly following clues suggesting his possible promotion. In the episode ‘All the Dark,’ Boden became aware of Deputy Fire Commissioner Gloria Hill’s (J. Nicole Brooks) impending retirement and learned that his name was among those being considered for her position. (Paraphrased from Soaps)
During pre-finale conversations, showrunner Andrea Newman hinted that Boden’s complex familial ties, especially his bond with his stepson James, significantly influenced his choice to depart from Firehouse 51.
