Chicago Fire season 13, episode 8 recap and review: "Quicksand"

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest episode of Chicago Fire has solidified its place among my top favorites. The perfect blend of drama, humor, and tension kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

As a dedicated fan, I can confidently say that the fall finale of Chicago Fire Season 13 didn’t leave me hanging. It was a perfect blend of dramatic twists, comedic relief, and nail-biting suspense. Plus, we got a bit more insight into Pascal’s personal life with his wife – absolutely thrilling!

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Chicago Fire season 13, episode 8

This upcoming episode seems set to deliver several intriguing elements. We’ll witness Carver caring for a dog, while Mouch and Herrmann prepare for their police exams. Additionally, we can expect some further insights into the storylines of Pascal and Novak.

To begin, let’s talk about the dog. It’s possible that Carver will adopt one soon, as he took charge of looking after a patient’s pet during a call, since there was no one else to do it. One of the highlights for everyone was when Tuesday was mentioned. Ritter explained that Tuesday had always disliked leashes and would often cause trouble at the firehouse, which is why she had to stay home. Since Tuesday’s absence has made a big difference on the show, simply hearing her name again brought a sense of nostalgia.

Perhaps, Carver might bring us a fresh K-9 companion for our firehouse – this new canine could be the one. You see, he’s been learning valuable lessons on empathy and boundless affection lately. This may very well help him conquer his feelings of solitude.

Mouch and Herrmann prepare for the officer tests in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 8

In the latest installment, some attention was given to Mouch and Herrmann preparing for their upcoming police exams. It was hinted that if Herrmann passed the chief exam and secured Pascal’s position, it would allow Mouch to take over as lieutenant at Engine.

To alleviate their stress from exams, they needed a distraction, and that’s when Kidd handed them her stack of documents she had to finish. Kidd casually mentioned that Severide was handling a case in Michigan but would return sooner than expected, so there was no cause for concern. It seemed like Mouch ended up with Kidd’s paperwork pile. Despite the pile, Kidd kept everything neat and orderly, with her notes well-organized.

As I stepped out from the flames, a familiar yet unexpected face caught my gaze – it was Monica Pascal. Her arrival at the firehouse took everyone by surprise, but it was a pleasant one. After all, Boden’s family and Cindy have become an integral part of our firehouse community. Here’s hoping we get to witness more interactions with Monica, as I believe she could be another valuable addition to our tight-knit group.

Monica and Dom had the opportunity to show some positive development, despite their seemingly toxic dynamics earlier on. This narrative reveals the underlying affection they share. Dom, striving to protect Monica, is taking misguided steps. However, as he comes to understand that he needs to be more understanding, he secures a training card for her from the police department’s gym, where she can learn firearm handling skills. While it might not be what she wants explicitly, Monica acknowledges that Dom is now paying attention to her wishes.

Novak reacts on a call in Chicago Fire

We haven’t seen Novak react too much to the negative things she’s seen on calls. She can usually just brush it off and get on with her day. That was until the Chicago Fire season 13 finale. One call was too much, and it wasn’t the man with the mangled leg!

They were summoned for a wellness inspection, and upon attempting entry into the apartment, they encountered a man suspended from the ceiling. With swift action, they managed to enter and lower him down. Miraculously, he was still breathing, and Violet immediately began attending to him. However, Novak angrily scolded him for his reckless behavior.

It’s evident that this is a deeply personal issue for her. She finds it hard to share her feelings with Violet, but it’s ultimately a conversation with Pascal that encourages her to reveal more. Novak visits the house where she spent her childhood, and the woman residing there offers a thoughtful smile upon learning that Novak was one of the “Novak children.

It seems evident that she has experienced the tragic loss of a brother through suicide. This event continues to haunt her, and in her time of need, she’s seeking comfort from Violet. As Firehouse 51 grapples with this new reality, they are gradually learning to open up and accept this as part of their family dynamic. We’re witnessing this transformation in Novak’s character now.

Ritter struggles to deal with the next step

In this episode, it was clear that some humor was needed, and Ritter provided just that. He revealed that he and Dwight were discussing living together, but truth be told, Ritter wasn’t entirely comfortable with the idea. You see, Ritter enjoys his personal space and has concerns that their relationship might take a turn for the worse if they decide to live under one roof.

I understand that Ritter cherishes his solitary lifestyle in space. It’s perfectly fine if he’s not ready for more companionship. Frankly, I find the idea of sharing living quarters again quite daunting. I value my personal space and even enjoy the luxury of having my own bed, let alone sharing it with a group of firefighters.

Ultimately, Kidd and Carver urged Ritter to pay a visit to Dwight, but we don’t have the chance to witness their dialogue, so I can only hope that Dwight comprehended the message.

Cruz is threatened in the Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale

Indeed, we anticipated some issues for Cruz during that particular incident. First, a bullet was found in his locker, followed by another one on his vehicle. Initially, Cruz assumed it was a prank from Tony and Capp, but it quickly became apparent that the situation was far more grave than a mere joke.

It appears that Leon, Cruz’s brother, showed up saying they had news from their past. Someone who was once imprisoned has been released early and is now targeting Cruz. This individual possesses information that could potentially land Cruz in some severe legal issues (not to mention trouble with the gangs in Chicago).

The storyline has been left unresolved; will Cruz seek assistance from others or opt to handle it independently as the series resumes?

The thirteenth season of “Chicago Fire” will air on Wednesday, January 8th at 9/8 central time on NBC. You can also watch it the next day on Peacock.
