As a devoted fan of Chicago Fire, I must say that Tuesday’s story tugged at my heartstrings more than any fire-related drama could. Having had a Dalmatian of my own who was as mischievous as Tuesday, I can relate to Ritter’s struggles with her separation anxiety and antics around the station.
As a gamer, when I learned that there’d be a dog in a firehouse during the season 13 fall finale of Chicago Fire, it instantly reminded me of Tuesday. If you didn’t catch her departure, you might find yourself asking why Ritter was talking about her in past tense. It’s a tale with a mix of sweetness and sadness.
On Tuesdays, Ritter’s dog was often referred to as hers. From a young age, this dog struggled with separation anxiety and needed to be present at the fire station. As the series progressed, she wasn’t always visible on screen, but viewers believed she was simply spending time off-camera within the firehouse.
What happened to Tuesday the dog in Chicago Fire?
Regrettably, Tuesday, who was indeed real, passed away unexpectedly due to complications with her kidneys on May 22, 2022. A poignant message was posted on Instagram to inform her followers and admirers about this tragic event.
As a dedicated gamer, I managed to catch the last episode of my favorite show, Chicago Fire, before it even hit the screens. Little did I know that this season 10 finale, which we filmed way back months ago, was going to be her final appearance on television. It aired on May 25 of the same year, leaving us all in awe and reminiscing about her incredible performance.
Ritter made a mention of Tuesday in the Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale
A poignant aspect of the show was that it didn’t explain why Tuesday wasn’t present at the firehouse following her actual demise. We did receive a tribute, but the reason for her absence remained unexplained. It feels as though Tuesday might still be lingering in some corner of the storyline.
In the latest episode, Ritter did mention Tuesday. When Carver carried a dog under his care to the firehouse, Ritter commented on how nice it was to have a pet around again. He also mentioned that Tuesday disliked being on a leash and would often damage the firehouse when Ritter left for calls, so he began keeping her at home instead.
This does track from a previous episode of the series. Kidd did try to train Tuesday but it wasn’t successful. Dalmatians are smart dogs, but they’re not the easiest to train!

Since Carver found himself deeply caring for Fridge the dog, it’s possible that he may acquire another canine companion. Might we see another pet joining the firehouse family as well?
Chicago Fire returns on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 9/8c on NBC. Catch up with the series on Peacock.
