As a dedicated fan who has followed Chicago Fire since its inception, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement at the prospect of Brett and Casey making a comeback! Their love story, filled with highs and lows, was one of the show’s most endearing narratives. The thought of seeing them again, even if it’s just for a brief appearance, is like dousing my heart with the finest firefighter foam.
Could we see the return of Brett and Casey in Chicago Fire? The showrunner has chimed in!
As Chicago Fire debuted, Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) held the position of lead firefighter at the station and had a number of romantic entanglements. Among these were a marriage to Gabriela Dawson, unfortunately ending in divorce. Fortunately, Matt found solace in a relationship with paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Kilmer).
From being just friends, I found myself falling in love with Brett, a journey that was unexpected yet incredibly rewarding. However, when Casey relocated to Oregon to care for their newly adopted children, our relationship took a hit. Yet, fate brought us back together, and he made his way back to propose – a moment I will cherish forever as I said “yes.
Could Brettsy make a return in Chicago Fire season 13?
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to say, when Kilmer and Spencer bid their farewells on the show, there was a buzz in the air that had us fans dreaming of their comeback. In an exclusive chat with TVLine, our showrunner, Andrea Newman, hinted at the possibility of these two characters making a shocking reappearance.
That is always a possibility with them. There’s such a great, deep history on the show with all these characters, and we love bringing everybody back. Severide said it, we’ve all said it, Boden’s certainly said it: Once you’re part of 51, you’re always a part of 51. So we very much live that on the show, as well, and feel like any character that has been a part of our lives and is still around will visit, could come back, could be there any moment. So, yeah, that’s always possible.
Although Chicago Fire hasn’t added any new characters yet, it often reprises old ones. Even though Eamonn Walker is no longer part of the main cast as Chief Boden, he’ll likely make some special appearances. In the meantime, fans can only speculate and stay tuned for updates.
Who else is being highlighted on Chicago Fire?
So far, Season 13 is focusing on some of the new characters such as Brett’s replacement, Lyla Novak (Jocelyn Hudon). All we know of the character so far is that she enjoys a good time at the local bars and talks about loving the adrenaline rush, but Newman promises there will be more focus on Novak and her past.
There’s so much fun Novak stuff this season. That’s another character where there’s so much stuff to peel back. We really don’t know her all that well, and some things we know about her, like the fun side of her, we’re going to explore that. She has a desire to be kind of a party girl and have a great time, but there’s also this deep empathy she has for other people. We’ll explore what her origins were, in terms of starting to want to be a paramedic and help people.
Season 12 faced some constraints, having just 13 episodes instead of the usual, due to the Hollywood strikes in 2023. In contrast, Season 13 will follow its standard 22-episode run, providing ample opportunity for the writers to delve deeper into the character of Novak. Additionally, this extended season could potentially bring about a reappearance of Casey and Brett, sparking excitement among fans of Chicago Fire, who are eagerly waiting to see if they will make a significant comeback.
Chicago Fire Season 13 airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC.
