OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has launched a new browser called ChatGPT Atlas. It’s built using the same AI technology that powers ChatGPT and is currently available for Mac computers.
OpenAI recently demonstrated ChatGPT Atlas in a short video. This new feature brings ChatGPT into a sidebar within your web browser, letting you ask questions or give instructions while you browse. For example, a user asked for local hiking spots while on Vrbo, and another ordered beach supplies through Instacart. This capability, called “Agent Mode,” allows ChatGPT to work directly with websites. Currently, it’s only available to those with a ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Business subscription.
You can find more details on the ChatGPT Atlas website. It will allow you to manage what ChatGPT remembers, giving you control over how it decides what information is important when responding to your questions.
Reports last year suggested OpenAI was developing its own web search engine to compete with Google. It appears ChatGPT Atlas is now aiming to do just that.
