Charlize Theron Reveals ‘Scumbag’ Director Sexually Harassed Her

Charlize Theron, who played leading roles in Bombshell and The Old Guard 2, has recently spoken up regarding the instances of sexual harassment she faced by a male director.

In 2019, during her interview on The Howard Stern Show, the acclaimed actress disclosed an uncomfortable experience. It turned out that she was invited to a director’s residence under the pretense of an acting audition for a film; however, rather than discussing the role, the director inappropriately made advances towards her.

Theron spoke with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast during her press tour for Netflix’s The Old Guard 2. When inquired about an incident from her early auditions, she reminisced: “I wasn’t aware of the audition procedure – thus, unknowingly, I didn’t understand how one becomes an actor. My agency told me, ‘We believe there’s a casting for this movie and you’ll need to go on Saturday night,’ and they provided me with the address, which led to the director’s residence.”

She went on to say, “An inner whisper assured me, ‘What’s happening here isn’t correct.’ Yet another part of me doubts, ‘Perhaps it is correct.’ However, the voice we often overlook, the one that knew all along.

Why did Charlize Theron choose not to mention the director’s name?

Theron kept the director’s identity a secret, but she did mention that he grew uncomfortable when she started speaking openly about that fateful night. Additionally, Theron shared that the director penned her a fake letter as an effort to manipulate the story being told.

Theron stated, “I’ve never mentioned his name as I prefer the story not to focus on him. It’s not about protecting him, but he became a bit uneasy when he overheard me telling the tale and knew it was about him. He wrote me a fictitious letter trying to clarify his actions and insinuate that I might have misinterpreted them, which is quite typical, isn’t it? It’s so common.

The actress expressed that the director became anxious over her comments and acknowledged his significant status as a director, stating, “I won’t even mention your name because you are well aware of being a lowlife. You know it is you. If anyone were to inquire about you from me, I would be truthful – and you are fully aware of that. I somewhat enjoy the fact that he finds himself in a difficult position. He doesn’t know when his trouble will arise. To be honest, I take some pleasure in that.

She stated, “I wouldn’t have landed a role that evening. From the moment I departed, I was certain of it. I understood that I wasn’t contributing anything significant to this man’s film. I was there for one reason, and my worth was limited to just that.

In the world of cinema, I’ve had the privilege of being recognized for my performances in films such as Monster, Battle in Seattle, The Italian Job, Æon Flux, Hancock, Mad Max: Fury Road, Atomic Blonde, and The Old Guard, to name a few.

She can recently be seen The Old Guard 2.
