At the 2025 Grammys, Chappell Roan, the winner of the ‘Best New Artist’ award, used her acceptance speech as an opportunity to discuss issues she faced in the music industry and with record labels. Her remarks have generated much interest and anticipation among fans, who are eagerly waiting to discover what she said. In addition to winning Best New Artist, Roan was also nominated for five other awards during the ceremony.
So, here are all the details fans need to know about Roan’s 2025 Grammys acceptance speech.
Chappell Roan’s Grammy acceptance speech explained
The singer from “The Pink Pony Club,” reading from a book during her acceptance speech, started by expressing gratitude towards her fellow nominees’ music, acknowledging that it played a significant role in helping her navigate through the year. She emphasized that the night Brat was particularly memorable and special for her this year.
Additionally, Chappell Roan carried on with her speech after her hat accidentally slipped off. Subsequently, she expressed her gratitude to her song’s audience, Dan, Island Records, and Amusement Records, as well as her dear ones, notably her late grandfather and namesake, Dennis K. Chappell.
Roan stated, “If someday I win a Grammy, and find myself speaking before music’s leading figures, I would call for record labels and those profiting greatly from artists to provide fair wages and healthcare, particularly for up-and-coming artists.” This statement sparked a powerful show of approval from the audience.

As a gamer, I’ve been through my own challenges too. Back in the day, a record label snatched me up when I was just a kid. But then, during the COVID-19 pandemic, they let me go. That left me struggling to find work because I had no prior experience on my resume. To add salt to injury, I couldn’t even afford health insurance back then due to my circumstances. Those times were really tough, and the feelings were just devastating.
Chappell Roan emphasized that if record labels had acknowledged and prioritized the significance of an artist’s well-being, she would have received necessary care from the company she was wholly committed to. Additionally, she urged record labels to view artists similar to themselves as “essential workers” and provide them with a “fair salary” and “health coverage.
In wrapping up her speech, the artist famed for “Good Luck, Babe!” posed a thought-provoking query: “We’ve given you labels, but have you returned our loyalty?” This question resonated deeply with the audience, resulting in a thunderous applause.
