Channing Tatum Teases Roofman, Calls It ‘Devastating, Emotional, and Somehow Hilarious’

Channing Tatum has starred in numerous impactful films across different genres, such as Magic Mike XXL, The Lost City, Blink Twice among others. This is just one of the many reasons he’s been selected as an honoree for CinemaCon’s Big Screen Achievement Awards. Before accepting his prestigious award tonight, Tatum introduced his upcoming film, Roofman, describing it as “powerful, emotional, and surprisingly humorous.

Drawing inspiration from the real-life tale of Jeffrey Manchester, Channing Tatum portrays a character who was infamous as a McDonald’s burglar, famously creating an opening through the roof to gain entry. This earned him the moniker “Roofman.” Upon his release from prison, he attempts to start anew by concealing himself at a Toys “R” Us store and forming a relationship with a single parent (Kirsten Dunst). However, his past life of crime eventually catches up to him.

This year at CinemaCon, I had the thrill of attending a presentation for Paramount Pictures’ upcoming movie, and guess who made an appearance? None other than Channing Tatum! At Caesar’s Palace in the bustling city of Las Vegas, he graced us with his presence to promote his latest project, Roofman. With a heartfelt expression, he described it as “a truly unique film” that tugged at different emotions within him, given its crime-drama genre.

Director Derek Cianfrance created a film that offers an incredibly engaging experience, blending elements of heart-wrenching sadness, intense emotion, and surprisingly funny moments.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super excited about the upcoming movie, where none other than Roofman is being directed by the talented Derek Cianfrance! The script has been crafted by Kirt Gunn, who was an executive producer on Sound of Metal, and it’s based on earlier work by David Stephens and Peter Petrucci. To top it off, we have a star-studded cast that includes Uzo Aduba, Peter Dinklage, Juno Temple, and many others! Can’t wait to see this masterpiece unfold!

What was in CinemaCon’s Footage of Roofman?

At CinemaCon, footage from Roofman shows Jeffrey Manchester entering a fast-food eatery via the roof. He gives a team member a coat and then compels everyone into a storage freezer.

As a devoted fan, I’m recounting the events unfolding at Jeffrey’s child’s birthday celebration. The joyful scene was suddenly interrupted when officers arrived on the scene. In an attempt to escape, Jeffrey dashed down the street, only to be apprehended by the police.

Following a successful breakout, Jeffrey conceals himself in the loft and hidden nooks of a toy shop. The movie portrays Jeffrey enjoying his newfound liberty within the store, dancing daringly like in Risky Business and even stripping down to nothing but his birthday suit. However, this freedom is short-lived as he’s eventually found by the shop manager. In other parts of the story, we see Jeffrey developing feelings for a female employee, putting himself at risk once more due to the threat of capture.

You can see Channing Tatum in Roofman when it comes to theaters on October 3rd.
