Channing Tatum Talks Playing ‘Psychopath’ Character in Blink Twice

As a long-time fan of Channing Tatum‘s versatile acting abilities, I have always admired his range and adaptability in taking on various roles. However, with his latest project, Blink Twice, he is venturing into new territory – playing a psychopathic villain.

Channing Tatum speaks openly about playing a psychopathic character in Zoë Kravitz’s first directorial project, titled “Blink Twice.”

Tatum is well-known for appearing in various comedy films and romantic comedies, with She’s the Man, the two Jump Street movies, and the Magic Mike series being some of his notable works. In addition to humor, Tatum has ventured into other genres like romance, drama, action thrillers, and sci-fi throughout his acting journey. However, Blink Twice signifies a new departure for him as he delves into portraying a villainous character for the first time.

As a gamer, I’ve been following the hype around this upcoming thriller game, which was previously known as “Pussy Island.” Based on the trailer and sneak peeks, it seems like a far cry from the other roles I’ve seen Tatum take on. In an exclusive interview with Total Film, Tatum himself admitted that he hadn’t portrayed anyone quite like Slater King before.

As a gamer, I’ve never encountered an opponent like this before. With each character I assume, I typically find myself drawn to them or forged some kind of bond. But this time around, there’s nothing endearing about the character I’m playing. In fact, I can’t even begin to describe the darkness that I had to tap into to bring him to life on the screen. He’s a true psychopath.

What is Blink Twice about?

At a glamorous fundraising event, billionaire tech magnate Slater King encounters waitress Frida. Instant chemistry ignites between them, leading Slater to ask Frida to join him and his friends on an idyllic getaway at his private island retreat. The days are filled with sunshine and nighttime brings wild revelries that blur into one another. However, as odd occurrences begin to disturb the tranquility, Frida becomes uneasy and suspects something amiss in this seemingly perfect paradise. To survive, she must unravel the mystery behind the island’s secrets.

I was thrilled to learn that Kravitz not only acted in Blink Twice but also collaborated on the script with E.T. Feigenbaum. In this captivating production, Naomi Ackie brings Frida to life, Christian Slater becomes Vic, Simon Rex transforms into Cody, Adria Arjona shapes Sarah, Haley Joel Osment breathes life into Tom, and Alia Shawkat embodies Jess. The stellar supporting cast includes Kyle MacLachlan, Geena Davis, and Levon Hawke.

Blink Twice hits theaters on August 23.
