As a die-hard fan of Chainsaw Man, Tuesday, July 16, 2024, was a day I’ll never forget. The release of chapter 171, titled “Special Division 5,” brought me to the edge of my seat with anticipation and excitement. Denji’s life experience in this manga is one that keeps me hooked, and this chapter did not disappoint.
In the last installment of Chainsaw Man, a shocking discovery was made at the sushi restaurant: Nayuta’s decapitated head appeared on one of the revolving belts. Amidst this revelation, Barem Bridge continued his icy conversation with Denji. The sushi establishment became a hub of activity. In Chapter 171 of Chainsaw Man, published on July 16, 2024, Denji’s gaze fell upon Nayuta’s head, leading to the return of the Hell’s Hero and ensuing pandemonium.

In the seventeen first chapter of Chainsaw Man, Denji encounters an unexpected surprise: Nayuta’s decapitated head on a sushi conveyor belt. Shocked, he calls out her name, leaving others around him in disbelief as they come to terms with the grisly discovery.
Despite Denji’s presence, unfazed and indifferent, Barem focuses on finishing his meal. He gives a chilly apology towards Denji. Acknowledging his harsh treatment of Nayuta, Barem justifies his actions, believing they were necessary for the greater good.
As Barem moves a piece of sushi towards his mouth, Denji suddenly grabs him by the throat. In response, Barem retaliates, coiling his intestines around Denji’s neck in an attempt to choke him.
I watched in disbelief as Denji brutally severed Barem’s head from his body. The once formidable opponent’s insides spilled out, covering the restaurant in a sea of entrails. The dishes on the conveyor belt spun wildly in the chaos that ensued.
In due time, the manga unfolds with Denji transforming into his demonic self, becoming Chainsaw Man. As Barem collapses, Denji raises his gaze to observe terrified civilians scampering away from the eatery.

In this chapter, it’s uncovered that an unidentified person has been tracking Chainsaw Man. Someone shouts out that they’ve found the “target,” referring to the “blind black Chainsaw Man.” Afterward, two teams from the Special Devil Extermination Division – Team A and Team B – are sent to deal with the situation.
When the Special Division makes their first appearance, a Public Safety officer excitedly declares this as their “grand entrance” to the crowd. He observes from a distance using binoculars as the story introduces one villain after another.
As a gamer, I’ve encountered some intriguing devils in this game. The first one sports two curved horns pointing downwards and lacks any eyes. The second devil boasts an unsettling grin and peeks at me with his peculiar, expressive eyes. The third devil is covered in wrinkles and flaunts oversized ears, yet remains eye- and nose-less. Lastly, the fourth devil’s head is adorned with spiky hair.
Based on my personal experience as a seasoned detective, I’ve seen my fair share of horrifying sights. But nothing quite compares to the chilling revelation during the investigation of that case. The devils, five in total, were unveiled one by one, their hideous appearances leaving us all speechless. One of them, the fifth and last, was particularly disturbing. Its face was a grotesque blend of human and alligator – an alligator’s snarling maw making up half, while the other half was a twisted, lifeless imitation of a human visage, with a single, terror-stricken eye. The sight of it left me shaken to my core, a haunting reminder of the darker sides of humanity and the monstrous forms they can take.

The agent’s work will decide if they keep their place in the Public Safety team. If they don’t meet peak performance, they may be labeled as worthless and discarded. Moreover, their role is to inflict harm on the Chainsaw Man, and they can do this in any way required while carrying out their responsibilities.
The agent adds that it’s acceptable if the devils can’t actually harm the Chainsaw Man as long as they prevent him from leaving the area. Should they accomplish this feat, their efforts will be acknowledged by the Public Safety team.
The Public Safety agent pays off the criminals and urges them to live on. He even guarantees an endless supply of alcohol and sushi for them. With this, he declares this group of miscreants as the Elite Division 5.
