CD Projekt Red set “to begin full-fledged production phase” on next Witcher game, Project Polaris

As a seasoned gamer and die-hard fan of both The Witcher and Cyberpunk series, I can hardly contain my excitement as CD Projekt Red unveils its upcoming projects. After years of immersing myself in their gritty, intricate worlds, the prospect of delving back into these universes is nothing short of a dream come true.

After CD Projekt Red first unveiled Project Polaris, their next installment in The Witcher series, back in October 2022, specifics about this upcoming magical RPG have been few and far between. Nevertheless, the studio has recently disclosed that their development team is approaching a significant milestone, which will signify the conclusion of the pre-production phase.

Based on a press release from CDPR during their H1 2024 earnings call, they announced that they are preparing to enter the full-scale production phase for Project Polaris. This suggests that details about the setting, storyline, and characters of the next Witcher game could be unveiled soon. In a different report, CDPR mentioned that this project is part of a new trilogy, but it’s unlikely we’ll hear much about the second and third games in the near future.

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has provided an update on their upcoming game within the Cyberpunk universe, which they’ve codenamed Project Orion. While development is still in its initial phases, Michał Nowakowski, one of the joint CEOs, mentioned that the first half of 2021 was a productive period for CDPR’s Boston studio as they established the foundation for Project Orion. Given that CDPR recently released the Phantom Liberty expansion last year, it seems likely that this next Cyberpunk game will be delayed even more than the release date for The Witcher’s sequel.

Besides these two upcoming projects, CDPR has unveiled plans for future endeavors, stretching into 2024 and beyond. According to their report, the studio aims to produce and release “Project Sirius,” a multiplayer game developed by The Molasses Flood, and “The Witcher Remake,” a long-anticipated project being developed in collaboration with Fool’s Theory. Therefore, if you’re enthusiastic about these franchises or the studio itself, there are many exciting developments on the horizon.
