In this piece, we’ll explore the intricacies surrounding Kuffel’s dismissal and his remarks critical of Elon Musk’s salute.
This article dives deep into the specifics of Kuffel getting fired and his comments criticizing Elon Musk’s salute gesture.
Sam Kuffel reportedly fired after criticizing Elon Musk’s salute
It’s been reported that Sam Kuffel, a meteorologist for WDJT-TV in Milwaukee, was let go from her job at the station. This news follows one day after she expressed criticism towards Elon Musk’s actions at a recent presidential inauguration event.
On Tuesday, Kuffel shared two Instagram posts alleging that the tech entrepreneur had given a Nazi salute on two separate occasions during his speech. In her first post, she asserted that Musk performed the gesture twice. Later, she reinforced her accusation by using a GIF from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, labeling Musk as a Nazi. The posts led to a wave of criticism, as conservative radio host Dan O’Donnell labeled her comments “vulgar” in a social media post (previously Twitter). The issue attracted even more attention due to this controversy. The Anti-Defamation League deemed Musk’s gesture as “uncomfortable,” urging caution when interpreting its meaning. Musk opted not to directly address the allegations but humorously responded to the situation, also criticizing his critics in the process.
On Wednesday afternoon, Kuffel’s biography and picture were taken down from the station’s website. An internal memo was circulated to WDJT-TV staff, confirming that Kuffel was no longer working for them. The station chose not to provide additional information, referring to it as personnel matters.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Kuffel has worked at that particular station for more than five years. She’s gained local acclaim not only for her weather reports but also for her stints on WRNW-FM. Despite the recent uproar, Kuffel hasn’t issued any public statements regarding her departure from the station.
