As a seasoned Castlevania fan who’s navigated through the dark halls of Dracula’s castle more times than I care to count, Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase felt like Christmas morning! The revelation of the Castlevania Dominus Collection sent shivers down my spine, not unlike a ghastly apparition from the series itself.
On this past Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, several unexpected games were released right away, including a few that many weren’t even aware of. Among them was a new compilation from Konami, titled Castlevania. Given that they have previously re-released the classic titles from NES, SNES/Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance, the next step is to bring Nintendo DS games into the modern era. As such, three DS classics are now available on contemporary platforms as part of the Castlevania Dominus Collection.
The Castlevania Dominus Collection includes three classic games: Dawn of Sorrow (2005), Portrait of Ruin (2008), and Order of Ecclesia (2008). Now optimized to run smoothly on contemporary devices, these games no longer require a second screen for operation. Instead, the secondary screen interface is accessible on the right side of your screen. Additionally, Konami has added several convenient features like rewind and quick save options, as well as additional content for each title.
Additionally, the assortment will feature Haunted Castle, a 1988 arcade adaptation of Castlevania known as Castlevania ’88. Users can dive into the original game or experiment with Haunted Castle Redesign, a revamped and rebalanced version of the arcade game tailored for contemporary players.
The only thing more surprising than the unveiling of the Castlevania Dominus Collection is the release date. It’s available today. Those interested in picking it up can grab it on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
