Casper Ruud achieved the distinction of being the highest-ranked Norwegian ever on September 12, 2022, as he climbed to a career-best ranking of 2nd place in the world for individual tennis matches.

Apart from coming in second place at three major tournaments (the 2022 French Open, 2022 US Open, and 2023 French Open) as well as the 2022 ATP Finals, he has also claimed victory in twelve ATP Tour singles competitions.

Early Life

Casper Ruud, who hails from Norway, was born on the 22nd of December, 1998. His parents are Christian Ruud, a retired tennis pro, and Lele Ruud.

In his youth, he lived in the Snarøya district of Baerum and idolized tennis player Rafael Nadal. Besides him, his family includes a father who they both enjoy golf, along with two sisters named Caroline and Charlotte.

Casper Ruud, being the first Norwegian player to make it into the top 10 rankings, has undeniably left an indelible mark on the tennis world, outshining his father, Christian Ruud, who peaked at a ranking of 39th globally.

2015 saw Ruud Jr. struggling in his junior Grand Slam singles matches, but he managed to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon in the boys’ category, partnering with Serbian player Miomir Kecmanovic.

In early 2016, this up-and-coming athlete clinched the Osaka Mayor’s Cup, a victory that catapulted him to the pinnacle of worldwide rankings. Later, he and Kecmanovic reached the semi-finals at Roland-Garros.

In the following year, Casper Ruud achieved remarkable success, claiming the top Norwegian ranking ever by winning a record-breaking five ATP 250 tournaments, each on clay courts.

In April 2022, he reached his initial Masters 1000 tournament final at Indian Wells, only to be defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. Later in June 2022, he made it to the French Open final, but faced stiff competition from Rafael Nadal, who claimed a record-breaking 14th Roland-Garros title and left him with minimal opportunities for victory.

As the seasons changed that year, I found myself propelled into the US Open final, showcasing my adaptability off the clay court. However, for the second time, it was Alcaraz who triumphed over me. Yet, my achievements were noteworthy enough to secure the number two spot in global rankings.

In the 2023 Estoril Open final, he managed to outplay his previous doubles partner Kecmanovic; however, that was his sole victory. Subsequent to this, he overcame Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev in straight sets, advancing to a second French Open final. Regrettably, Novak Djokovic handily bested him there.

Casper Ruud lost for the sixth time in a row against Stefanos Tsitsipas, following his victory over the top-ranked player at the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters. However, he managed to break the losing streak by beating Tsitsipas at the Barcelona Open.

Personal Life

Casper Ruud and Maria Galligani have been a couple since 2018. They made their engagement public on social media in November 2024. Galligani is frequently spotted supporting Ruud at various tennis tournaments he takes part in.
