As a game enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned Prime Video is cooking up a fresh take on Carrie, inspired by Stephen King’s 1974 novel. This eight-episode series is being masterminded by the talented Mike Flanagan, who’s no stranger to bringing chilling tales to life on the small screen, having previously adapted gems like The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Haunting of Hill House, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
The Cast
Summer H. Howell takes on the role of Carrie White, a tormented teenager with extraordinary psychic abilities, who endures both peer harassment at school and strict control from her devoutly religious mother. Notably, Howell has previously starred in horror productions such as “Curse of Chucky.” Meanwhile, Samantha Sloyan portrays Margaret White, Carrie’s oppressive and fanatically religious mother. Known for her work with Mike Flanagan and for delivering intense, multi-layered performances, Sloyan is an ideal fit for this challenging character.
Siena Agudong assumes the character of Sue Snell, one of Carrie’s classmates who begins to ponder her involvement in the bullying. Alison Thornton portrays Chris Hargensen, the instigator of the attack against Carrie. In addition, Josie Totah, Amber Midthunder, Arthur Conti, Joel Oulette, and Matthew Lillard are also part of the cast.
A Different Take On The Horror Classic
Flanagan is recognized for crafting narratives that delve deeper into emotional turmoil instead of relying solely on conventional horror elements. Consequently, his interpretations of Carrie may offer a profound exploration of the psychological underpinnings of the story, potentially going beyond the traditional focus on the prom scene and graphic violence. Instead, the series is anticipated to emphasize the characters and their interactions, with a greater emphasis on the complex social dynamics in school and at home.
When Will It Be Released?
While a specific launch date hasn’t been given yet, it’s expected that the filming for the series will start this summer in Canada. Given Mike Flanagan’s typical production schedules, we might see Carrie streaming on Prime Video sometime around the end of 2025 or early 2026.
