Captain Richardson reveals his secret to Claire in Outlander season 7, episode 11

As a gamer who has been swept away by the captivating world of Outlander, I must say that this season 7 twist with Captain Richardson has left me utterly intrigued! It’s like being transported back to the 18th century and stumbling upon a hidden rebellion within the British Army.

Ever since our initial encounter with Captain Richardson, it’s been apparent that he harbored some secret plans. It appears as though he spilled the beans to Claire in the eleventh episode of ‘Outlander’ season 7.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Outlander season 7, episode 11

In the latest installment, Claire and Lord John Grey found themselves tying the knot, a union neither desired but deemed crucial for Claire’s safety against Captain Richardson.

As it transpires, Richardson initially had no intention of arresting Claire. The idea originated elsewhere, and he confided in Claire that he informed Lord John Grey, fully aware that John would take steps to safeguard Claire. However, Richardson was surprised when John’s response was a proposal of marriage.

Why would Captain Richarson want to save Claire in Outlander season 7?

As a hardcore gamer, I’ve been wondering about this guy Richardson. The question in my mind is why he’s so determined to save Claire? Here’s the scoop: turns out, ol’ Richardson is a hidden Rebel! He’s been playing a double game as a covert operative for the Rebels, all while serving within the British Army.

He wouldn’t be the first to do this. We know plenty of officers on both sides were turncoats, but there was one in particular who made a name for himself. It was all about Benedict Arnold, who we met during Outlander season 7A.

Currently, we encounter an individual from the opposing faction. This isn’t entirely unexpected when you take into account what William uncovered. The letters that Richardson asked William to deliver were intended for known Rebels. Richardson warned him that there were spies operating on both sides and suggested that these men were working for the British. However, it appears that Richardson was lying to safeguard his own interests, as he was actually passing information to the Rebels.

Can we really trust Richardson in Outlander?

Is it safe to believe him entirely? After all, he’s given different stories to William and Claire. His ability to deceive is evident, so the challenge lies in figuring out who he may have misled.

Claire finds it plausible that he’s a Rebel, given his request for Claire to gather information on the Greys and relay it to him. However, Claire isn’t prepared to carry out such a task. Despite being a Rebel herself, she has no intention of defying Lord John Grey. He is not only her friend but also, in a sense, her husband (considering the state they were left in at the end of the episode).

It’s evident that Richardson is planning something significant. For those who have read the books, they can anticipate the events unfolding for Richardson, assuming the series sticks to the original narrative. So far, the show has not dropped any clues, but Richardson seems to have his own plans, and he won’t hesitate to make them a reality if necessary.

Outlander airs on Fridays on STARZ.
