Chris Evans has stated that he won’t be a part of Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, contrary to certain rumors circulating around.
In various Marvel Cinematic Universe productions, Chris Evans portrayed Captain America (Steve Rogers). It appeared that his last appearance as this character was in Avengers: Endgame in 2019; however, he later reprised his role as Johnny Storm/Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine, which was released in 2024.
In December 2024, Deadline announced that Chris Evans might come back to Marvel for the film “Avengers: Doomsday.” The report didn’t specify if he would continue as Steve Rogers or assume a completely fresh character. However, it’s anticipated that Anthony Mackie will portray Captain America/Sam Wilson in the upcoming ensemble movie.
Is Chris Evans going to appear in Marvel’s next Avengers movie?
Speaking with Esquire, however, Evans said that the reports of his MCU return are untrue.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed something quite consistent – it’s like clockwork, happening roughly every few years, ever since the release of Endgame. Frankly, I find myself growing numb to it; I just can’t muster up the energy to react anymore.
He’s currently enjoying his retirement from Marvel, a fact he’s expressed before to Mackie as well.
The films “Avengers: Endgame” (2019) and its 2027 follow-up, titled “Avengers: Secret Wars,” are both being helmed by the Russo Brothers – Joe and Anthony Russo. At present, specific plot details are kept confidential; however, there’s been a flurry of speculation online about which characters might make an appearance.
In the upcoming film “Doomsday,” we can expect to see the principal characters from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom. On the other hand, Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed that Doctor Strange won’t feature in the next Avengers film, but instead will play a significant role in “Secret Wars.
After Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans has appeared in films like Knives Out (2019), The Gray Man (2022), Ghosted and Pain Hustlers (both 2023), and more recently, Red One (2024). Coming up next is Ethan Coen’s Honey Don’t!, set to hit US theaters in May this year.
The movie “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on May 7, 2027.
