Captain America: Brave New World’s Giancarlo Esposito Teases Sidewinder’s Future

Giancarlo Esposito has gained recognition lately for playing menacing characters, and he’s set to continue this trend by portraying a villain in the forthcoming film, “Captain America 4“.

In the upcoming movie set to hit theaters on Valentine’s Day, 2025, Esposito will debut as the actor portraying Sidewinder within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This character was initially presented in Marvel Two-in-One comic book issue #64, way back in the 1980s.

At the Los Angeles Comic Convention, Giancarlo Esposito had an interview with On the Red Carpet discussing potential aspects of Captain America 4. Furthermore, he shared some insights on possible futures for his character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

During the interview, they unveiled the original Sidewinder comic look, and I couldn’t contain my excitement! I shared my eagerness to infuse even more of that comic influence into future films. I proudly declared, “I’ve incorporated some of Sidewinder’s distinctive colors into the costume you see me wearing now. I hope it ignites inspiration for upcoming movies, allowing me to delve deeper into the serpentine character!

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America 4, the character played by Esposito, Sidewinder, is set to appear as the head of Marvel’s Serpent Society. About the action-packed performance viewers can expect from Sidewinder in the film, Esposito mentioned, “This character is proficient with firearms, handguns, knives, and has a very active physicality – he fights using punches, kicks, and more.” Notably, this marks Esposito’s first experience portraying such a character.

At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, Giancarlo Esposito shared insights about his active role in Captain America 4 with PEOPLE. He hinted, “I’m more of a hands-on action guy, not one who merely directs and relies on brainpower to navigate through situations.” Furthermore, he emphasized, “I’m the kind of person who uses my skills and all available tools to perform at my best.
