Captain America 4’s CinemaScore Is MCU’s Worst, Despite Hopeful Box Office

Discussions about box office earnings and audience feedback for the new movie “Captain America: Brave New World” are buzzing throughout the entertainment industry. Even though it had a successful opening, its CinemaScore rating has generated considerable interest and debate. Analogies to earlier Marvel Cinematic Universe productions offer valuable insights into its overall performance and possible influence on the franchise’s future course.

Captain America 4’s box office off to an impressive start

In a thrilling start, Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World raked in approximately $88.5 million during its initial three-day run at the box office and is projected to surpass $100 million over the extended four-day Presidents’ Day holiday weekend. The movie also made a global debut of roughly $192 million, according to Deadline.

In contrast to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania from 2023, which grossed approximately $106.1 million in its opening three days and a total of around $120 million over the four-day holiday weekend, Brave New World started with lower box office earnings.

Nevertheless, it holds the fourth position among the highest-earning President’s Day weekends at the box office. It trails behind Black Panther ($242 million), Deadpool ($152 million), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($120 million) in terms of earnings.

Captain America: Brave New World gets the worst CinemaScore for an MCU movie

Brave New World” earned a B- grade from its first-day viewers, which represents the poorest score among all films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

As a gamer, I’ve got to admit, this latest Marvel flick didn’t quite hit the mark like Eternals, The Marvels, or Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania did for me. These movies earned B grades, which is still respectable, but they didn’t resonate as strongly with audiences as past Captain America installments, such as The Winter Soldier (A) and Civil War (A).

A poor CinemaScore could indicate that the movie’s popularity might not spread through word of mouth, which could result in a significant decline in box office earnings during its second week. Furthermore, the movie’s 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is among the lowest for any MCU film, barely surpassing Ant-Man 3 (46%) and Eternals (47%).

Captain America: Brave New World is now in theaters.
