As a dedicated fan, I’ve been thrilled to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe journey since Phase 2, portraying Sam Wilson, also known as Falcon. Now, in the highly anticipated Captain America: Brave New World, I step into the role as Captain America, taking over from Steve Rogers, the original and iconic Captain America. Among the Avengers, Rogers was a true leader. Now, Marvel Studios’ VP of Production & Development, Nate Moore, has given us a sneak peek into how my Captain America will fit within the team dynamic in the upcoming blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday.
Nate Moore says Anthony Mackie’s Captain America will be at the center of Doomsday
In the chilly weather of late January 2025, Nate Moore, alongside Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, and others, gathered at Trafalgar Square in London, England, to discuss Captain America: Brave New World. During their turn at the conversation, Nate Moore touched upon Wilson’s role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward, hinting that the character would assume leadership of the Avengers.
Moore mentioned that we’re definitely moving forward with Avengers 5, and as far as he’s concerned, it’s typical for an Avengers film to feature Captain America prominently. He explained that the story will focus on Sam Wilson demonstrating his worthiness of the Captain America role, highlighting why he’s a fitting successor while also being distinct from Steve Rogers.
The creator went on to highlight the significant distinctions between Wilson and Rogers, and how these differences would shape the storyline. “Wilson isn’t a super-soldier,” Moore clarified, “he’s just an ordinary person like us. Therefore, the action will be distinct.” He added, “The way he tackles problems is unique. I believe that he will apply the skills learned in this movie to help the Avengers combat a fresh danger.
It’s likely that we’ll see many new characters among the Avengers when they confront Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Given his extensive background, Wilson could make an outstanding commander for this group of novice superheroes.
Significantly, the premiere of Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025, while Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit American cinemas on May 1, 2026.
