Captain America 4: Is Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers Dead? Funeral Scene Explained

As a dedicated gamer and avid follower of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I have been eagerly anticipating the release of “Captain America: Brave New World.” The recent teaser trailer for the film has left many fans, including myself, with a lot of questions, particularly regarding the mysterious funeral scene.

There’s speculation among fans that Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, may have passed away in “Captain America 4.” This theory arose following the unveiling of the preview for “Brave New World,” during which a quick scene of a military funeral was shown.

Inquiring minds may ask, did Steve Rogers’ Captain America perish in “Brave New World”? Which character’s funeral scene does the movie present instead? Your responses lie ahead.

Is Steve Rogers dead in Captain America 4?

There’s uncertainty as to whether Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, has passed away by the time of Captain America 4. The clarification on this matter will be revealed when the movie is released in theaters.

There’s been a lot of discussion online that the upcoming funeral might be for Steve Rogers. The Falcon and Winter Soldier series suggested that Rogers had passed away during its events. In the finale, Sam Wilson assumed the role of Captain America. Consequently, it’s plausible that this funeral marks the end of Rogers’ tenure as Captain America and officially introduces Sam Wilson to the world as the new Captain America (as reported by Dexerto).

For some time, it was no secret to numerous fans that a funeral would unfold in the movie. In March 2023, images surfaced online (courtesy of JustJared) revealing the film’s main characters, such as Sam Wilson and Betty Ross, dressed in mourning attire while on set.

Who could the funeral be for in Captain America: Brave New World?

It is currently unknown whose funeral is shown in Captain America: Brave New World.

Based on Dexerto’s report, it’s intriguing to consider that the funeral could be for President Thunderbolt Ross. The trailer drops hints supporting this theory by incorporating cherry blossom trees as a backdrop in both the funeral and Red Hulk’s unveiling scenes.

There’s a possibility that Ross hid his death and used the rumored Red Hulk transformation in the film as a cover to pursue undisclosed goals in the story. Evidence for this theory includes Betty Ross’ attendance at the funeral, as seen in JustJared’s photographs.

I wasn’t taken aback when when I read in the comics that Ross disguised himself as the Red Hulk and used a “Life-Model Decoy” to hide his identity. As the Red Hulg, he kept a low profile to deal with gamma-powered dangers, even targeting the Hulk himself.

Captain America: Brave New World arrives in theaters on February 14, 2025.
