As a gamer who has been following Capcom’s Onimusha series since its inception, I must say, it feels like coming home after a long journey to see Samanosuke Akechi back in action! The trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword at The Game Awards 2024 was a delightful surprise, and the return of the mystical gauntlet had me reminiscing about my old demon-slaying days.
It’s been quite some time since there’s been any fresh addition to Capcom’s Onimusha series, but tonight we were given a sneak peek at its return with the new Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Although we only saw cinematics during this reveal, Capcom has confirmed that the game is set for release in 2026.
Capcom gave us the first trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword at The Game Awards 2024. Though the trailer was mostly focused on cinematics, we did get a look at what looked like Samanosuke Akechi with his mystical gauntlet. He even duels with demon samurai, slays them, and lets the gauntlet swallow their souls, the way it ought to be.
Based on what’s been shown in the trailer, we don’t know a lot yet, but Onimusha: Way of the Sword is planned for release in 2026. Keep an eye out for further updates in the coming months! Also, make sure to follow our Game Awards topic for the most recent news and coverage.
