As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that NEON has officially unveiled the release date for their highly-anticipated crime thriller, “It Was Just An Accident.” This announcement comes over a month since its captivating premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where it garnered the prestigious Palme d’Or award in the competition.
As a game enthusiast, I’d rephrase that as: “Based on Panahi’s second imprisonment in Iran, ‘It Was Just An Accident’ is a film about me (the protagonist) where a seemingly innocuous incident sparks a chain of events that snowball into greater and greater complications.
When is the It Was Just An Accident release date?
The film titled “It Was Just An Accident” is set to enter U.S. cinemas on October 15. NEON has plans to campaign for awards in various categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature. This month also marks the release of other notable films such as Channing Tatum’s “Roofman”, Dwayne Johnson’s “The Smashing Machine”, Jared Leto’s “Tron: Ares”, the sequel to “Blumhouse’s The Black Phone 2”, and Jeremy Allen White’s “Springsteen” movie.
The upcoming film is directed, written, and produced by Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. The main cast includes Vahid Mobasseri as Vahid, Mariam Afshari as Shiva, Ebrahim Azizi as Eghbal, Hadis Pakbaten as Golrokh, Majid Panahi as the groom, and Mohamad Ali Elyasmehr as Hamid. Since its initial release, it has received a flawless score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 43 reviews.
In this project, NEON is teaming up with Panahi for the second time following their joint effort in 2021’s The Year of the Everlasting Storm. The production team includes Philippe Martin, Sandrine Dumas, and Christel Henon as producers, while David Thion and Lilina Eche serve as associate producers. This film is a joint production by Les Films Pelléas, Jafar Panahi, and collaborators from Iran, France, and Luxembourg.
